Torri del Benaco
Torri del Benaco and the charm of the medieval town
Torri del Benaco lies on the Veronese coast of Lake Garda, bordering Garda to the south and Brenzone sul Garda to the north, 38 kilometres north-west of Verona. The municipal hinterland extends eastwards to the slopes of Monte Baldo and borders the municipalities of San Zeno di Montagna and Costermano, while on the other side of the western shore is the province of Brescia in Lombardy.
What to do in Torri del Benaco
The Pilgrim’s Way is one of the classic tours of the Riviera degli Olivi, which follows the old roads that once connected Garda, Torri del Benaco, Albisano and Crero, and then climbs up along the Riviera to the picturesque town of Malcesine. Pilgrims arriving from northern Europe used to walk along this path to reach the road leading to Verona, and from there to Venice to embark on the Holy Land route. The route, one of the most beautiful and popular in the whole Garda area, requires a minimum of training, but the effort is rewarded with breathtaking panorama, immersed in the typical Mediterranean and pre-alpine vegetation. The novelty of this route is the opening of the Tibetan bridge in Val Vanzana, the first in the Montebaldina area, which joins the villages of Crero and Pai di Sopra, crossing a deep, narrow gorge. The gorge that divides the two sides of the hill has always prevented hikers from continuing along the so-called “senter de mes”, forcing them to descend to the valley on the Gardesana road to resume the route later. Now it is possible to admire the nature and landscapes from Garda to Malcesine, thanks to a route that winds along the western side of Mount Baldo, crossing stretches of municipal roads and CAI (Club Alpino Italiano) paths through olive groves, woods, villages and towns. Sailing, surfing, trekking and mountain biking are just a few examples of the sports activities that can be experienced here.
