Sona
Sona, a charming town on the moraine hills
Since ancient times, Sona has attracted great attention thanks to its strategic position halfway between Verona and Lake Garda, and for the sweetness of its morainic hills covered with vineyards, olive, cherry and peach trees. The Romans, the Longobards, the Scaligeri and later the Serenissima Republica of Venice settled here leaving behind splendid villas and rural courts. There is much evidence of the Italian Risorgimento and the battles fought between Sona and Custoza in 1848 One such example is the watchtower known as La Guglia immersed in the centuries-old Parco Romani of Villa Trevisani. Today the municipality of Sona includes the communities of Palazzolo, where the Scaligera Tower stands, San Giorgio in Salici and Lugagnano.
