The enchanting San Vigilio peninsula

Punta San Vigilio is a headland that from the slopes of Monte Baldo plummets into the waters of the lake forming a charming peninsula. From the centre of the town, heading towards Torri del Benaco, you can walk for about a kilometre and a half along the shores of the lake, between the famed Villa Becelli-Albertini and Villa Carlotti-Canossa, surrounded by magnificent gardens.

The route ends with a picturesque harbour, enclosed within the walls of the surrounding buildings. On the last rock overlooking the lake, you can admire the old church of San Vigilio, whose niche shelters the statue of San Giovanni Napomiceno, protector of sailors.

As you proceed, you arrive at the entrance to the splendid Villa Brenzoni-Guarienti, built in the first half of the 16th century in the midst of a garden full of ornamental plants, tombstones and sculptures in typical Renaissance style. Going up the long avenue of cypress trees that connects the villa to the state road, we recommend that in the end, you walk down to admire an evocative spectacle offered by the Baia delle Sirene, a bay with particularly clear waters.

A park where the fun begins

Inaugurated in 1975, Gardaland was created from a project of the Venetian entrepreneur Livio Furini, who, inspired by Disneyland, wanted to build a similar structure in Italy.
The park is structured in themed areas that recall, through a careful and detailed scenic reconstruction, the world of history and geography, space and fantasy.

Villa Venier is a representation of the heritage of the Venetian villas. The architectural complex, originally owned by the Venetian Venier family, is considered the beating heart of Sommacampagna’s cultural life. Community and exhibition halls, the municipal historical archive, a literary café, the Consorzio di Tutela del Vino Custoza, coworking spaces and training courses, all enliven this historic building.

The vast surrounding park hosts the Palco Venier summer festival, with theatre, dance, concerts and meetings with famous authors. Ideal place for civil weddings, art exhibitions and concerts of classical music

Many of the events organised in Bussolengo find their rightful place in the precious setting of Villa Spinola, following its recent renovation. It dates back to the 15th century, is surrounded by tall trees and offers a marvellous view over the Adige Valley and Valpolicella. Its location, combined with its elegant architecture, makes it an ideal venue to celebrate civil weddings, to organise conferences, art exhibitions and classical concerts.

On summer evenings, it is pleasant to take part in shows, concerts and film projections on the portico and in the park surrounding the villa. For some years now, in mid-August, the back façade of the villa has been the backdrop for the three-dimensional image shows, water games, lights and music.

The country’s most significant monument

Built around the 12th century, the Church of St Valentine is the most significant monument in the town. In the first half of the 15th century, it was already decorated with two splendid cycles of frescoes, one inside and the other outside, depicting the stories of St Valentine. The frescoes are the work of several painters completed between 1300 and the first decades of 1500 and can be attributed to the school of Altichieri, Giovanni Badile, Domenico and Francesco Morone. Inside there is a beautiful and well-preserved 16th-century Lamentation, a statue of St Valentine, St Peter and St Paul. Under the south porch, there is the 14th-century Crucifixion predating the cycles of frescoes.
